Twitter and Your Brand
It has come to my attention that there are a lot of you out there that don’t know how to use Twitter. Or why you should even attempt. Which is totally understandable, because well, Twitter is confusing & extremely powerful all at the same time. Twitter is also quite possibly the most important thing any business can engage in. If Twitter is done right it can impact your brands awareness in ways you can’t even imagine!
So, that leads to the next question, “Ok I’m on Twitter – now what?”
Well, here are my tips & tricks that make the Twittersphere a whole lot less daunting.
1. Post Relevant Content
First off, why are you posting? What is it that you want to accomplish? You want people to see your tweet, favor it and retweet it right? YES!! That’s what we all want!
Be The Subject Matter Expert!! Ask Questions, be personal – engage people naturally, have fun, be creative!
2. Add the Visual Element
People don’t read, attach images or videos to your tweets that grab peoples attention.
3. Keep it Short
Again, people don’t read. Keep your tweets to 100 characters or less for more impact.
4. Tagging
Tweet AT people/brands, follow the pages you are tweeting at, follow back pages that follow you. Attend trade shows, take pictures, talk about other brands (B2B) or your clients (B2C), as much as possible. When you mention others in your posts, they are likely to retweet what you wrote about them and then their followers have a chance to follow you.
5. Hashtags – Search Term Targeting
Hashtags are the single most powerful tool on Twitter. If you don’t add hashtags, don’t bother tweeting it.
But not all hashtags are created equal! I suggest making a list of industry keywords – like the keywords you use in your SEO efforts. These are the hashtags to use and follow. See what is trending, see what your competition is doing. Jump on the larger brands bandwagons! Find new companies to follow and interact with through relevant keywords.
But again, keep it short – use no more than two hashtags in any post.
6. RETWEET, RETWEET, RETWEET
If you have multiple brand pages, tweet between your pages – retweeting, & favoring things back can help spread the word. Also, if you want something retweeted by someone else – just ASK! I get requests often – “@Breezer_Girl can you Retweet this for me?” You know what? I do it every time. But do use your words – “Retweet” works better than “RT”.
See? It’s not really that hard after all is it? And practice makes perfect! So, get out there and start tweeting. If you find something different that works for your brand – great! You should drop me a line however and let me know. I am always down the learn something new!
Happy Tweeting!
